The Municipal District of Lesser Slave River is seeking a Shop Helper/Laborer for seasonal employment for approximately the period of May to September 2024, at our locations of Slave Lake, Smith and Flatbush. The Shop Attendant is responsible for helping to maintain the MD Maintenance Shops and Yards, as well as assisting other departments when extra help is required.

Responsibilities

Duties may include (but are not limited to):

• Cleaning and detailing trucks and equipment, small maintenance of units (Greasing, lights, etc).
• Document unit inspections for record management and safety.
• Keep equipment and shop yard clean.
• Help with various mechanic duties when needed.
• Parts inventory, Fleet filing and Transportation labourer when needed.
• Housekeeping items in shop, yard and coffee room.
• Performs daily, weekly and monthly safety and maintenance checks, minor repairs and maintains logs. Advises supervisor of any mechanical or safety issues.
• Cleans equipment as scheduled or required and ensures equipment is safely stored.
• Performs grass mowing, yard maintenance, refuse collection, brushing, clearing, patching, crack filling, carpentry work, painting, snowplowing.
• Participates in sign maintenance, installation, and washing.
• Completes ditching and culvert installation.
• Establishes maintenance at community halls, shops, fire halls, offices, parks and boat launches.
• Understands and follows the municipal safety procedures and program.

Education and Certifications

• Grade 12 Diploma – preferred
• Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License – required

Abilities and Experience

• Must be physically fit and able to do heaving lifting work – required
• Must be willing to work in all types of weather conditions – required
• Excellent social, communication, and relationship management skills – required
• Ability to work well under pressure, individually and as part of a team – required

Salary Range: $21.10 – $27.77/hour, dependent on qualifications and experience.
