Farm-restricted Class 1 Driver’s Licence

Starting from April 1, 2024, eligible farmers and their family members can now apply for a farm-restricted Class 1 driver’s license.

Upon passing the Class 1 knowledge and road tests, undergoing vision screening, and submitting a driver’s medical assessment, the driver will receive a farm-restricted Class 1 driver’s license with condition code “P”, indicating they must comply with farmer restrictions. Pre-licensing training is not mandatory for this license.

In addition to the farmer-specific conditions, the driver must fulfill all other Class 1 driver’s license requirements, which includes obtaining the Air Brake (Q) endorsement. For further details, please refer to the Air Brake Program.

Farm-restricted Class 1 drivers could potentially face a license code restriction “N”, prohibiting them from operating vehicles or combinations which require a Class 2 or 4 driver’s license. However, this restriction can be lifted if the individual successfully completes the required knowledge and road tests, along with meeting any additional conditions for a Class 2 or 4 driver’s license.
