Safer Roads and Lower Repair Costs

Road bans help the MD extend the lifespan of roadways under its purview, which in turn makes them safer for motorists and reduces repair costs over time. Bans are periodically needed during times of construction and maintenance, and annually during the spring thaw when frost movement can damage roads more easily.

Road Ban Permits

To request a road ban permit, please contact the Transportation department. Special approvals such as heavy hauls or travel on banned roads, require a minimum of three business days for permit approval.

Enforcement of Road Bans

Bylaw Enforcement personnel enforce road ban compliance via spot checks carried out across the MD. Passenger and recreational vehicles are exempt from road bans in the MD.
