Weather Conditions Affecting Road Maintenance
Drive according to current road conditions
Freeze-thaw weather conditions are presenting challenges for road maintenance across the MD.
With alternating snow and rain, surfaces are remaining wet while temperatures continue to hover around the freezing point. This means that roads are not freezing solid, but they are also not drying out.
At this stage, MD crews can only push the worst of the slush off the roads until conditions either freeze or dry. Attempting to grade or cut out potholes in these conditions would only create soft, unstable surfaces and result in the loss of gravel—causing more damage and much higher repair costs for ratepayers come spring.
Residents are asked to be patient and adjust their driving to current road conditions until drier or colder weather allows for more effective maintenance.
