The aroma of sizzling flapjacks filled the air on Saturday morning, August 30, as the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River welcomed fairgoers to its annual free pancake breakfast at the Smith Arena.

Held from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., the breakfast was a warm and delicious kickoff to the second day of the 45th Annual Smith-Hondo Fall Fair & Rodeo.

In celebration of Alberta Day and as a proud sponsor of the fair, MD staff and Council members donned aprons and spatulas to serve up fluffy pancakes, fresh coffee, and plenty of smiles.

The event drew families, neighbours, and visitors from across the region, offering a chance to connect over breakfast before the day’s festivities began.

The pancake breakfast has become a cherished tradition at the fair, symbolizing the MD’s commitment to community engagement and rural hospitality. With the parade, rodeo events, and family dance still ahead, the breakfast provided a perfect moment of calm and camaraderie.
