Smith Bridge Daily Closure Lifted
Single-lane traffic is now accommodated
Update: The daily closure of the Smith Bridge is being lifted, as construction has progressed to a point where one lane of traffic can now be accommodated, with a lane width restriction of 3.7 meters. The MD thanks crews for their diligent efforts in staying ahead of schedule and appreciates residents for their continued support as we complete these necessary repairs.
Previous update: The Smith Bridge will be closed daily from October 18 to 24 and October 29 to November 3, from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
This temporary closure is necessary to facilitate repairs to the bridge's superstructure (trusses), ensuring its continued safe operation until a replacement bridge can be constructed.
Crews will take all reasonable measures to help minimize the impact of this temporary closure. In the event that emergency services need access, the contractor can reopen the bridge. Arrangements have also been made to accommodate the school bus.
The MD thanks affected residents and motorists for their patience and understanding during this period. MD staff and team members are committed to maintaining a respectful environment, and we kindly ask for the same consideration in return.
