Slave Lake Public Library seeking Library Assistant

The Rotary Club of Slave Lake Public Library is seeking a Library Assistant for a permanent, part-time position. The library serves the Town of Slave Lake, MD of Lesser Slave River, Smith and Flatbush Libraries, and the Sawridge First Nation. Reporting to the Library Manager and Circulation Clerk(s), the Library Assistant is responsible for carrying out circulation duties and providing support across various library functions.
Key responsibilities include clerical duties related to circulation, information service, computer support, and collection maintenance. The Library Assistant will assist with routine facility maintenance, ensuring the library’s appearance and equipment are well-maintained. Other tasks include answering reference and community information queries in person, online, or by telephone, processing payments at the circulation desk, and assisting patrons with basic computer (hardware and software) or photocopier issues.
The position also involves acting as a point of contact and referral for other library services such as interlibrary loan and electronic resources, shelving materials, checking in interlibrary loan deliveries, and performing various clerical activities such as displays, cleaning, and shelf-reading.
Additionally, the Library Assistant will follow procedures for opening and closing the library, communicate library policies and procedures to the public, and perform any other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will have at least a Grade 10 education and be 15 years or older. Proficiency in keyboarding and Microsoft Office is required.
