Old Smith Highway Rebuild to Begin
Underway summer of 2024
The MD will commence rebuilding 1.8 km of the Old Smith Highway this summer.
The project is located approximately 10 km west of Smith. Work will commence in mid-July 2024, and will be completed in October of the same year. It will include replacing two water crossings and relocating the road further from the Lesser Slave River. The existing crossings are washing out and the road is subject to slides. The river is immediately adjacent and is threatening to erode the road.
Construction is being performed by Avid Energy Services Inc. The road will remain open throughout construction, although detours and slowdowns will occur.
