Message of Appreciation to First Responders
Thank you to those who answer the call
On behalf of Council and administration, I want to extend our deepest appreciation to all our first responders who continue to answer the call—often under the most difficult circumstances.
Over the past several weeks, as extreme winter weather has battered our highways, these dedicated individuals have worked tirelessly in freezing conditions. They have responded to collisions, rescued stranded motorists, and consistently prioritized the safety of our community above their own comfort.
Despite long hours, dangerous conditions, and the emotional toll that comes with the job, our emergency personnel continue to go above and beyond. Many have taken on double shifts and faced heartbreaking situations, including a recent fatality on our roads. Their courage, skill, and compassion in the face of such tragedy are truly commendable.
"To our paramedics, firefighters, peace officers, tow operators, and RCMP: thank you. Your service embodies the strength and resilience that define our community."
On behalf of the MD, I extend our sincere condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones impacted by recent tragedies on Alberta’s highways. Our hearts are with those mourning unimaginable losses, as well as those recovering—both physically and emotionally—from these difficult events.
A Request to Our Residents:
Freezing rain, low visibility, and heavy snowfall have made travel treacherous. As these conditions persist, I urge all motorists to slow down, allow extra travel time, and adjust your driving to match winter’s unpredictability.
If conditions are severe, please consider staying home until roads improve. Every choice we make behind the wheel helps reduce risk—for ourselves and for the responders who must step in when things go wrong.
— Sincerely, Reeve Murray Kerik
