Update posted July 22, 2025 at 5:00pm — This notice affects everyone in the MD of Lesser Slave River located in the Hamlet of Marten Beach, Summerwood, TWP RD 740, and Gilwood Golf course.

The evacuation alert for wildfire SWF-149 has been cancelled for all areas.

Cooler temperatures are helping firefighters make good progress toward containment. At this time, SWF#149 has had significant equipment and resources on it. The threat assessment is low based on the recommendation from Regional Fire Services.

Update posted July 21, 2025 at 8:00pm — This alert is in effect for everyone in the MD of Lesser Slave River located in the Hamlet of Marten Beach, Summerwood, TWP RD 740, and Gilwood Golf course.

Wildfire SWF-149 is not expected to grow any further at this time.

Should the conditions or situation change, updated information will be provided. The current 4-hour evacuation remains in place for the next 24 hours. The next update will take place at 8:00 p.m. on July 22, 2025 unless the fire behaviour changes.

NO EVACUATION IS REQUIRED AT THIS TIME. Be prepared to evacuate within 4 hours of notification in case an evacuation of the community is required.

Update posted July 21, 2025 at 1:15pm — This alert is in effect for everyone in the MD of Lesser Slave River located in the Hamlet of Marten Beach, Summerwood, TWP RD 740, and Gilwood Golf course.

Alberta Wildfire continues to respond to SWF149, located approximately 12 km southeast of Marten Beach and 20 km northeast of the Town of Slave Lake.

The wildfire remains classified as out of control and is currently estimated at 44 hectares in size. Cooler temperatures and rain today have helped to reduce fire activity. However, this relief is expected to be temporary, with hot and dry conditions forecast to return in the coming days. Firefighters, aircraft, and heavy equipment are actively working to contain the wildfire.

Be prepared to evacuate within four hours of notification in case an evacuation of the community is required.

The MD has issued a Wildfire Alert.

This alert is in effect for all residents of the MD of Lesser Slave River who are located in the Hamlet of Marten Beach, Summerwood, Township Road 740, and the Gilwood Golf Course area.

Be prepared to evacuate within four hours of notification if an evacuation becomes necessary. Wildfire SWF149 is currently burning east of Highway 88.

Instructions

If you are in Marten Beach, Summerwood, along  Township Road 740, or the Gilwood Golf Course, you prepare for a possible evacuation.

Fuel your vehicles, gather important documents and medications, and pack enough food and water to sustain your household for at least three days.
