MD Implements New Water Rates
Updated rates effective January 1, 2024.
Water rates are scheduled to increase as of January 1, 2024 after a water and sewer cost analysis showed that current water production and sewage treatment costs are being heavily subsidized by the municipality (85% for water production and 96% for sewage treatment).
Council and Administration understand the direct impact this decision has on consumers. However, rates must be increased in order to properly manage the MD-owned water and wastewater systems. The expense of operating, maintaining, and upgrading the MDs water and wastewater infrastructure are partially funded through the sale of drinking water to customers within the service area.
