The MD wishes to share a recent interaction that highlights how our peace officers engage with the community in meaningful ways beyond bylaw enforcement duties.

Smith School student Lincoln had a surprising start to the 2024 school year when he was pulled from class to speak with Community Peace Officer Raxen Singh. A good samaritan had found Lincoln's wallet that he had lost a few days prior at the Smith-Hondo Fall Fair & Rodeo, and Officer Singh made a special visit to the school to return it to him personally.

The gesture left a positive impression on Lincoln and his classmates, who were curious about the visit but soon learned the reason. Lincoln's parents Katie and Donald were also pretty pleased their son's wallet was returned in such a unique manner — and with all of its contents intact.

This light-hearted story serves as a reminder that the roles of our community peace officers often involve building trust and connections rather than simply issuing fines or responding to emergencies. Officer Raxen's simple act of kindness reinforces the MD's philosophy that community connections are at the heart of effective policing.
