The following are highlights from the January 14, 2026 Regular Council Meeting. This summary provides a snapshot of the key decisions and discussions of this meeting.

Finance & Governance
Administrative appointments, fiscal responsibilities, and provincial advocacy.
Interim CAO Appointment
Council appointed Doug Baird as Interim Chief Administrative Officer effective January 5, 2026. He will serve until the permanent CAO begins in February.
2026 Tax Sale
The MD's Tax Recovery Sale is scheduled for March 27, 2026 at 10:00am in MD Council Chambers. Council has approved the necessary reserve bids and conditions.
Remuneration Policy Updates
Revisions to policies CL-11-06 (Council Remuneration) and CL-11-07 (Board Member at Large Remuneration) were approved.
Provincial Advocacy
Council is requesting a meeting with Minister Dan Williams during the Spring RMA Conference. Advocacy priorities include:
- Surface Material Levies;
- Temporary funding for bridge infrastructure; and
- Flood mitigation for Marten Beach.
Infrastructure & Utilities
Public works, utility extensions, and bridge engineering.
Southshore Water & Sewer Extension
Following a presentation by resident Ronald Potts, Administration will prepare a cost proposal for water and sewer line extensions (including curb stops) to be considered during 2026 budget deliberations.
Muskeg Creek Bridge (BF06603)
Council approved a $19,845.00 proposal from True North Engineering Ltd. for oversight of the procurement and installation of a temporary bridge.
Planning & Land Development
Bylaw amendments, subdivisions, and land use regulations.
Land Use Bylaw Amendment (Bylaw 2026-01)
Council gave First Reading to amendments regarding Seacans (Section 10.13) and General Definitions. A public hearing will be scheduled and advertised shortly.
Smith Subdivision
Council reviewed the three-phase plan for this development. Phases 1A and 1B will be submitted to the Municipal Planning Commission simultaneously, with 1B scheduled for completion during the upcoming road construction season.
Community & Safety
Recreational agreements and community partnerships.
Canyon Creek Recreation Association
Council reviewed the current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the association and opted to maintain the agreement without amendments.
