As temperatures rise and the spring thaw accelerates, the MD is ramping up proactive flood monitoring efforts across the region.

The MD is undertaking pre-emptive flood monitoring during the spring thaw. Creeks and rivers are being checked daily, and monitoring will increase if water levels and flow rates begin to rise.

Riverbend Road and Twp Rd 703 Closed

Both Riverbend Road and Township Road 703 are closed due to high water levels. Please review the details below.

About Riverbend Road Closure

Riverbend Road near the west end of the Old Smith Highway is closed for the foreseeable future due to a washout. Motorists are advised to review the two possible detour maps below.

About Twp Rd 703 Emergency Closure

Township Road 703 in the hamlet of Hondo is closed from the mailboxes to the bridge due to water running across the road.

Update Saturday, May 2 at 11:00 am:

Mooney Creek Bridge on Sawridge Road Remains Closed

Both Eating Creek Bridges on Eating Creek Road and Poplar Lane are closed due to high water levels. A detour has been opened using the private road off Eating Creek Way.

Flood Watch Activities

  • Equipment has been mobilized to both bridges to remove debris.
  • Barricades in Poplar Lane will be manned 24/7 until the bridges can be opened.
  • Field Services staff are monitoring all locations twice daily and will advise if conditions change.

Present Status

At this point, there is no need for evacuation, nor are there imminent threats to public safety and infrastructure.

The Flood Response Unit has been serviced and is ready for deployment if needed.

The MD is working closely with Regional Management to ensure readiness in the event of overland flooding. At this time, no flood activity is being observed; however, conditions may change quickly due to warmer temperatures expected.
