Alberta’s wildfire season has started early this year, February 20, 2024.

Fire permits will be required for all outdoor burning activities—except campfires—within the Forest Protection Area. This mandatory permit requirement will remain in effect until October 31.

Fire permits are free and can be easily obtained online at firepermits.alberta.ca. Alternatively, you can request a permit by contacting your local Forestry Office: Slave Lake (780.849.7377), Lac La Biche (780.623.5388), or Wabasca (780.891.3860).

To stay informed about fire restrictions and bans in your area, be sure to check albertafirebans.ca regularly. If you notice an active fire or suspect a potential wildfire, call 310-FIRE (3473), a toll-free number available 24/7.
