Council Attends Fall RMA Convention
Lobbying for for regional priorities
MD Council and senior leadership representatives are attending the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) 2024 Fall Convention in Edmonton the week of November 4. Their mandate is to meet with key ministers and bureaucrats to advocate for strategic priorities like funding for pre-flood mitigation strategies, collaborative infrastructure planning, and working with ministry stakeholders to address escalating criminal activity in the region.

The primary matter for discussion this fall is maintaining the momentum of the Smith Bridge rebuild project. As the construction phase of the Smith Bridge nears, Council seeks to ensure its financing approach reflects the MD’s means. Further, Council plans to underscore the strategic and economic value of the Smith Bridge to Alberta’s bottom line.
"We seek a stable financial foundation for the Smith Bridge construction phase. This will help ensure the accountability of all stakeholders, including municipal leaders, government partners, industry stakeholders, and the community at large."
To help drive the MD’s lobbying efforts home, Council has information kits in hand containing concise briefings and supporting data. These documents articulate Council concerns about how the Province is handling key issues; propose actions and approaches to remedy these issues; and request status updates on previously-discussed matters.
Following the RMA Convention, the minister briefings will be posted to Council's dedicated government relations website mdmatters.ca. Residents are encouraged to explore this website to stay up to speed on Council's ongoing efforts to lobby for regional priorities.
