Clarifying Forest Protection Area Boundaries
Check for bans before making plans.
There’s often some confusion about which areas of the MD fall within the Lac La Biche and Slave Lake Forest Protection Areas. To help clarify, the Alberta government has provided this attached map.

The MD spans both the Lac La Biche and Slave Lake Forest Protection Areas. Land south of the Athabasca River falls under the Lac La Biche Forest Protection Area, while land to the north is part of the Slave Lake Forest Protection Area.
Living near these densely forested areas heightens the risk of wildfires, making it vital to stay prepared. Start by registering for emergency alerts through the MD’s Voyent Alert! notification system to receive critical information during a crisis.
Stay informed by regularly checking the MD website and social media channels for updates and important instructions. Also, download the Alberta Wildfire App on your Apple or Android device to receive real-time wildfire alerts.
For more information, visit the MD's Wildfire Status section on the website.
