Help Make Regional Decisions as a Member-at-Large

The MD is looking for public members to strengthen a number of planning, housing and agricultural boards. Every October, Council holds an Organizational Meeting and appoints Councillors and Members-at-Large to represent the MD on various organizations within our region. Most appointments are for a one year term. 

The Member-at-Large opportunities listed below are paid positions. Members-at-large qualify for meeting honoraria, travel expenses and other benefits. The Member-at-Large application window for the 2022-2023 term will remain open until successful candidates are found.

Interested parties are encouraged to submit their Municipal Board & Committee Member application to the attention of the Executive Assistant via mail or fax to the Main Administration Office in Slave Lake. Alternately, you can email a signed digital copy of your application to info (@) mdlsr.ca.

Agricultural Act Appeal Panel

The purpose of this Panel is to serve as the appeal body for weed and pest appeals.

Agricultural Service Board (ASB)

The purpose of this Board is to promote agriculture for the MD and to assist with new projects. The Board also sets goals and objectives, prepares a yearly budget, plans projects with the Agriculture Fieldman for the year, and assists with different workshops as well as completing the performance of the Agricultural Fieldman annually. This Board recommends agricultural policy for Council and serves as the forum for MD farmers and ranchers to discuss emerging issues.

Lesser Slave Regional Housing Authority

The Authority is governed by a seven member board with representation from Councils of the MD of Opportunity, Town of Slave Lake, MD of Lesser Slave River, as well citizens-at-large from the MD and TOSL, appointees of the B.E.S. Legion of Slave Lake and local representative of the Metis Nation of Alberta. The Authority strives to provide decent, low cost, subsidized housing to qualified applicants in the Lesser Slave Lake area.

Municipal Planning Commission (MPC)

The Commission shall be composed of six members appointed by resolution of Council for a specific period not to exceed three years. The Commission shall act as the Subdivision Authority pursuant to the provisions of the Land Use Bylaw. Bylaw 2015-11 was created to establish a Municipal Planning Commission.

Subdivision & Development Appeal Board

This Board meets to address development permit and prescribed subdivision appeals.
