Located in the the Boreal Plains region of north-central Alberta and pulsing with the energy of all that is "Rugged & Real" in a community, the Lesser Slave River encompasses 10,150 square kilometers within which 2,800 people reside. The MD's Mapping & Geographics department is responsible for maintaining the region's Geographic Information System (GIS) (a computerized mapping system). The GIS team is responsible for producing and distributing maps and mapped data sets, as well as assigning addresses and approving street names.
The Mapping & Geographics department maintains a public information counter at the Main Administration Building where residents can request current land information maintained by the municipality. Maps and data about property, floodplains, soils, topography, zoning, streets, addresses, and other topics are available through this public service.
