The MD of Lesser Slave River recognizes the importance of education and continued learning. In this spirit, a number of scholarship and bursary programs are offered each year to encourage students to pursue further educational opportunities, and to enhance the ability of young people to make meaningful contributions to their communities. Additionally, provincial and national scholarship and bursary opportunities that may be of interest to to Lesser Slave River students will be added to this section.
Please note that, unless otherwise specified, the scholarships and bursaries listed within this section are only available to individuals residing within the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River.
2019 Rugged & Real Post-Secondary Scholarship Recipients
The three recipients of this year's Rugged & Real Scholarship are: Dorica Walsh who is taking the Laboratory and X-Ray Technology Combined program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology; Michael Vance who is studying Natural Resources Technology program at the Portage College; and Zoey Pearson who is taking Forest Technology at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. We wish our young recipients the very best in their studies!
Scholarship and Bursary Opportunities in the Lesser Slave River Region
At least one Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00 is awarded each year. Apply by June 26, 2020. With a view to supporting local students to advance studies and pursue higher education opportunities, the Rugged & Real Post-Secondary Scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student attending a post-secondary institution whose permanent residence is within the Municipal District. Applicants may also be current seasonal/student staff of the MD, regardless of residence. Mature students are encouraged to apply.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) & the Northern Alberta Development Council (NADC) are proud to offer this unique bursary opportunity. AHS and the NADC match between $1,000 and $3,000 per student up to a total of $6,000 per year for each recipient in exchange for a return of service within northern Alberta.

|Municipal District of Lesser Slave River has recently announced a new grant program called the Community Assistance Board (CAB) grant. It is available to not-for-profit community organizations in an effort to enhance social programming, community events and facilities, as well as other amenities located within the municipality. The program will have four intakes during the year (January, April, July and September) and applications will be evaluated on the project’s alignment to the MD’s community values.

|The NADC Bursary is a return service bursary of $6,000 per year for a maximum of two years, and is offered to students in their final two years of post-secondary studies. In recognition of the importance of an educated population to the future well-being of rural communities, the Association established the RMA Scholarship Program in 1995.
The RMA Scholarship Program is designed to encourage young rural Albertans to pursue further education, and thereby enhance the ability of these young people to make meaningful contributions to their communities in subsequent years. Through the Scholarship Program, RMA provides funding assistance to five rural students each year (one student in each of the five RMA geographic districts).
