As part of the MD of Lesser Slave River’s Vegetation management program, it is sometimes a requirement to utilize herbicide application as a “Best Management Practice” to eradicate and /or control Prohibited Noxious Weeds and Noxious weeds ,inclusive of woody species, within the municipally-owned road allowances.
These applications of herbicides may occur from the middle of June through to October 2019. Please note the following:
The MD and /or its contractors will not apply herbicides in areas which are:
- Within 30 meters of a body of water. ( except when in compliance with the Environmental Code of Practice for Pesticides)
- Next to sensitive crops to the chemical being sprayed (i.e. Vegetable crops)
- Next to gardens, nurseries, greenhouses, and inhabited yard-sites.
- Next to dugouts and /or planted shelterbelts.
Any “landholder” that does not want herbicide treatment on the municipally owned road allowance(s) that are located adjacent to their property, can enter into an “Exemption from Municipal Road Allowance Herbicide Application Agreement”. Once entered into the agreement, the landholder assumes full responsibility of prohibited noxious and noxious weed control and woody species control on the road allowance for the season.
The Exemption from Municipal Road Allowance Herbicide Application Agreement must be signed on an annual basis. The deadline for application is June 4 th /19. If you want to enter into an agreement or would like more information on our Road Allowance Vegetation Management Program and Policy, call 780.681.3929 or toll-free 1.866.681.3929.
