The starting point for the parade is the MD Public Works Yard in Smith. Gates open at 8:00am; judging begins at 9:30am; and the parade gets going at 10:30am.

Entry Fees

Entry fees for the parade are as follows:

  • $20 for businesses
  • $15 for clubs
  • $10 for families
  • $5 for individuals

Prize Categories

Judging criteria is based on the entry showing the strongest theme for each group. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

  1. Club
  2. Business
  3. Antique car
  4. Antique farm equipment
  5. Individual
  6. Motorbike/quad
  7. Family

More About the 44th Annual Smith-Hondo Fall Fair & Rodeo

Kicking off this year's fair on August 30 is the mother nature-themed parade with local historian Sheila Willis as the Parade Marshall. Ms. Teen Smith Pageant and junior gymkana.

Rodeo events take place from August 31 to September 1. Cowfolk from far and wide show off their skills in events like bareback, tie-down roping, team roping, saddle bronc, ladies’ cow riding, bull riding, junior steer riding, calf riding, pee wee barrels, junior barrels and ladies’ barrels and more. You won’t want to miss a second of this edge-of-your-seat rodeo action!

From the annual parade and calf scrambles to the junior gymkhana, muttin’ bustin’ and popular Fall Fair Dance, this action-packed all-ages fall fair truly has something for everyone!

Community Calendar Summary

The community calendar is a moderated user-access tool to help showcase and promote community events and activities of interest to Lesser Slave River area residents, business owners and visitors. We invite individuals and community groups to promote eligible local events on this calendar.

All events submitted for publication on the community calendar are subject to public disclosure under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The MD reserves the right to restrict, delete or refuse to post any submission that in their sole opinion is deemed inappropriate, at any time and without notice.

Submission Approvals

Before an event submission can be published, it must be reviewed by MD administrators for compliance with the terms of use. Decisions on whether or not to add, remove or deny any posting to the community calendar shall be made at the sole discretion of the MD.

Eligible Events

The following types of events are eligible for inclusion on the community calendar:

  • Community meetings and events
  • MD-sponsored events
  • Farmers’ markets within the Lesser Slave River region
  • Not-for-profit organization events
  • Multicultural events and celebrations
  • Not-for-profit events such as exercise, art and culture classes or meetings open to the community
  • Registered not-for-profit and charity fund raisers
Ineligible Events

The following event types are not allowed on the community calendar:

  • Any event that is commercial in nature and, in the MD's sole opinion, attempts to advertise, promote or sell products or services of an individual or an individual business
  • Any private, for-profit business content
  • Contests
  • Personal garage sales
  • Political events including notices of partisan political gatherings, nomination meetings and constituency events
  • Recruitment events
  • Regularly-scheduled faith services

  • Sexual content or links to sexual content
  • Regular scheduled events (e.g. fitness classes, dance lessons, etc. that are not taking place within a municipal facility)
  • Private events such as family reunion, weddings, birthdays, etc.
  • Contains spam or advertising
  • Content that promotes illegal activities
  • Content that promotes particular services, products or political organizations 
  • Content that pomotes individual religions or regularly-scheduled religious services
  • Information that may tend to compromise the safety and security of the public or the MD
  • Content that violates a legal ownership of any other party
  • Content that violates any federal, provincial, or municipal statute or regulation, or a bylaw or policy of any member municipality
