Background
NE-27-73-7-W5M is owned by the MD of Lesser Slave River. The land was previously used as the RCMP camp after the 2011 fires. Council wanted to explore recreational uses for the lot, and an Expression of Interest was distributed for interested parties during the summer of 2024. Travelling timber proposal was approved in beginning of September.
To accommodate the proposal, a rezoning was necessary. The lot has been used for a variety of community and recreational type development in the last 41 years. The following development pemrity applications were found in the file:
- 1983: Surveys and installation started of the truck water fill station (the parcel between the railway, creek and road was called the water point)
- 1985: Erosion study of Nine Mile Creek
- S-17(E )-06-88: Recreation Complex
- S-93-D-30: Recreation – Campground, Demo Derby, Day Use (ball diamonds and beach court was proposed in addition to “random camping”)
- 98-D-95: Addition to complex (kitchen)
- 09-D-029: Sign (for Widewater Athletic Association)
- 11-D-129: Temporary Housing (3 duplex units and 3 single units)
- 12-D-044: Playground
- 15-D-047: Outdoor Washroom Facility
- 17-D-011: Portable Storage Unit (sea can)
- 17-D-032: Daycare
- 17-D-039: Public Utilities: 94 sq. m. pump station and raw water intake
- The proposed site for the Travelling Timbers units is approximately 2.86 acres in area and is the area that is east of the creek that runs through the property NE 27-73-07-W5M.
Pursuant to Section 11.6.3 of Land Use Bylaw No. 2021-17, it is hereby given notice that the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River No. 124 is considering an application for development permit 24-D-059 for the follow development in a direct control district:
- Tourist Accommodations: Rental cabins (12) housekeeping cabin (1) gazebos (2)

If If you or any group of citizens either support or are opposed to this proposed development permit application and wish to inform MD Council, please deliver a letter addressing your concerns to the MD Administration Office no later than Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. Otherwise, a verbal presentation can be made at the Public Hearing on December 18, 2024, at 10:15 a.m. at the MD Council Chambers.
