A Collaborative Approach to Public Safety
The Lesser Slave River region is policed by the RCMP detachment in Slave Lake. The RCMP is responsible for keeping the peace, preventing crimes and investigating crimes already committed.
While the RCMP maintains primary jurisdiction over criminal enforcement and emergency response, the MD’s Protective Services team bolsters this coverage through focused traffic safety, bylaw enforcement, and visible rural patrolling. This collaboration ensures a holistic approach to policing—optimizing resources to cover the region’s extensive geography while addressing local concerns and broader public safety mandates with equal vigilance.
Together, these agencies form a complementary network that enhances response times, deters crime, and fosters a secure environment for our communities.
