Resources for candidates and voters.

The next municipal election takes place Monday October 16, 2017. Nomination day is on Monday September 18, 2017. Council for the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River consists of a Reeve elected at large and six Councillors, representing two municipal divisions. Division 1 includes the communities of Flatbush, Chisholm, Hondo and Smith. Division 2 includes the communities of Mitsue, Marten Beach, Canyon Creek, Widewater and the land adjacent to the Town of Slave Lake.

To be nominated as a candidate in an electoral division, the person must be a resident of the division for six consecutive months prior to nomination day. The term of office is for four years. There is no limit on the number of times a Councillor can be re-elected.

Planning to vote? Please remember that one piece of Canadian government-issued ID will be required. Accepted forms of ID can be federal, provincial or local (or an agency thereof), that contains your name, photo and current address.

Notice of Election Day and Advance Vote

Notice is hereby given that voting will take place this October for the following offices:

1 Reeve At Large

3 Councillors - Division 1

3 Councillors - Division 2

Votes can be cast on October 16 between the hours of 10:00 am and 8:00 pm. Advance voting will take place October 10 between the hours of 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Voting Stations will be located at:

  • Flatbush MD Office
  • Smith Community Complex
  • Slave Lake MD Administration Building
  • Widewater Complex
