Career Opportunities

The M.D. is currently seeking a full-time FireSmart Coordinator for a 2-year term to join the Lesser Slave Region FireSmart Committee (LSRFC). This position is responsible for communicating the directives of the Lesser Slave Region FireSmart Sustainability Plan, arranging for implementation of those directives, and achieving those items.


 

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the LSRFC in developing and managing the long term FireSmart sustainability plans regarding education and community engagement programs
  • Support delivery of curriculum-based programs on FireSmart Education and FireSmart Community Engagement programs within the Lesser Slave Lake Region
  • Communication of FireSmart events, programs, and achievements
  • Coordinate and deliver FireSmart education programs with agencies outside our region
  • Works collaboratively with the Lesser Slave Regional Fire Services, the FireSmart Crew, AB Agriculture and Forestry representatives, and Tri-Council
  • Lead the development and management of special FireSmart education and community engagement projects
  • Other duties as required

Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Degree/Diploma and/or work experience in the Science of Natural Resources, Environment, Forestry, Communications, or Education
  • Previous experience planning and coordinating public outreach and program campaigns
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write correspondence, research and prepare reports and public education materials
  • Ability to work independently; ability to positively contribute to a teamwork environment
  • Ability to multitask, manage, and complete multiple projects within timelines provided

The Municipal District of Lesser Slave River requires a Weed Inspector for the period of May to September. The position is based out of the Flatbush sub-office, Monday to Friday with a 40 hour work week.

  • Administration and enforcement of the Alberta Weed Control Act
  • Assistance in maintenance, repair and delivery of herbicide application equipment

The Lesser Slave Lake Regional Waste Management Services Commission is currently seeking a full-time Landfill Supervisor for a 1 year term. The position is based out of the Regional Landfill in Wagner.

This position is responsible to ensure efficient day-to-day operations of the Regional Landfill and reports to the Director of Transportation and Infrastructure of the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River No. 124.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all site, regulatory compliance, and administrative duties for the Regional Landfill
  • Responsible for the coordination of all waste, recycling, and organic material onsite
  • Responsible for daily site operations and reporting
  • Supervise all permanent and seasonal staff employed at the Regional Landfill and Transfer Stations
  • Assist the public with questions, concerns, paperwork, analysis review, etc.
  • Responsible for fleet operation and daily site maintenance of equipment
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other computer software
  • Self-motivated and demonstrate strong leadership skills
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment
  • Demonstrates the ability to delegate, prioritize, and multi-task to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively with a focus on customer service, tact, diplomacy, and competency
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License

Compensation

Dependent on education and experience. Based on a 32 hour work week.

The Municipal District of Lesser Slave River is currently seeking a Seasonal Labourer(s) (May to September) who would be responsible for the maintenance around the Municipal District.

Duties and Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Grass mowing, yard maintenance, refuse collection, brushing, clearing, patching, crack filling, carpentry work and painting, snowplowing
  • Sign maintenance, installation, and washing
  • Ditching and culvert installation
  • Maintenance at community halls, shops, fire halls, offices, parks, boat launches
  • Operate small utility tractor & 3pt hitch mower to maintain ditches and open areas
  • Maintaining assigned equipment according to maintenance policy and repair as necessary
  • Physical labour including outdoor and indoor facility maintenance
  • Assisting with Transfer Station site maintenance if required
  • Assisting other MD Departments such as Building Maintenance and Utilities when required

Requirements:

  • The ability to work alone and follow instruction and safety procedures
  • The ability to perform duties requiring mild, medium and heavy physical labour
  • Have at least 2 years’ experience in operating small equipment and tractors
  • Have past experience in construction and maintenance type work utilizing all types of shop and hand tools
  • Be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather

Compensation:

    The successful candidate will receive $17.00 - $23.00 per hour depending on experience.

    A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's Licence is required.

  • Mechanical vegetation management using riding mowers, push mowers, small tractors, and trimmers
  • Operation, maintenance, and inspection of equipment including mowers, trimmers, ATVs/UTVs, trucks, and trailers
  • Loading, unloading, and towing equipment on trailers
  • Physical labour including general landscape and facility maintenance
  • Participation in the Municipal Health and Safety Program
  • All other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Experience with operation of equipment
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated, positive attitude
  • Works well independently as well as in a team environment

Compensation:
