Volunteer Facilitator Training Opportunity

Volunteer Facilitator Training Opportunity for Drop-in Care Partner  Support Group for Slave Lake, AB

It has been brought to our First Link Outreach Team’s attention recently, that Slave Lake, AB, would benefit from having a drop-in Care Partner Support Group for those caring for someone who has Alzheimer’s/Dementia.

Drop-in Care Partner Support Group is designed for families and care partners who want to meet others to share experiences, to learn new information, to receive peer support and to help each other cope more effectively. As more family members and caregivers are faced with the challenges that come with caring for someone with Alzheimer Disease or a related Dementia, the need for more support also increases. The Drop-in Care Partner Support Group is open to all family members and caregivers of someone with Alzheimer Disease or a related Dementia.

A Volunteer Support Group Facilitator trained under the Alzheimer Society of Alberta & NWT’s umbrella, facilitates such Care Partner Support Groups. The Volunteer Support Group Facilitators function as leaders of the group who facilitate group discussion regarding issues with Alzheimer Disease and related Dementias, offer support in the form of information and referral to community services, and Alzheimer Society resources.

The Alzheimer Society will be offering training May 25 th & 26 th , 2018. The Society will pay for one overnight stay the evening of May 25 th , 2018. We will provide supper, continental breakfast, and lunch during the training. We need one person from your area who is prepared to commit to this meaningful cause.

Support group meetings can be held in the daytime hours or evening hours and generally run for two hours-once per month, or, whatever is best suited to your community. The Alzheimer Society does not provide support groups in July or December. Support group meetings are held on a drop-in basis (no pre-registration required).

Should you know of any person who may have experience or some knowledge of having lived through Dementia with a family member, that you feel would be interested in taking the Alzheimer Society’s Volunteer Facilitator Training, please refer that person to:
