MD Passes Interim Budget

Council for the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River No. 124 approved the 2018 preliminary budget at its meeting on December 13, 2017.

The preliminary budget consists of three components:

Convenient, Secure and Free

  1. The 2018 Base Budget of $19,899,107
  2. Approved Operational Decision Papers for Additional Work in 2018: $2,174,075
  3. Approved Capital Decision Papers for Projects/Asset Replacement/Purchase in 2018: $2,700,640

Details of spending and funding for the three categories are provided in the Backgrounder attached to this release. Note that there are tentative and conditional upon funding decision papers that will receive consideration upon the adoption of the final MD budget at the end of March and do not form part of the preliminary budget.

During 2018, MD citizens and businesses will see an increased focus on re-graveling, renovations to community vertical infrastructure such as the Widewater Complex and the Canyon Creek Arena, and capital reinvestment in the Smith Water Treatment Plant for membrane replacements amongst other priorities. Efforts toward continuous improvement in the delivery of services drives many of the 2018 budgetary priorities.

The adoption of the preliminary budget in this manner allows the MD Administration to make progress on approved decision papers immediately in the first quarter of 2018 as the Municipal District awaits the receipt of its assessment figures for 2018 at the end of February 2018. Preliminary budget figures are subject to change as costs savings through the procurement process are realized, assessment amounts are confirmed, and taxation decisions are finalized.
